Menstruation is "dirty and impure"

FACT:

Menstruation is a continuous and natural cycle in humans. This biological function is a necessity to reproduce life and should not be stigmatized.

MYTH:

People who are on their periods are "unhygienic and unclean" and the food they touch will become soiled

FACT:

As long as basic hygienic care is used during menstruation, there is no scientific evidence showing that those who are menstruating are unhygienic or that they can contaminate food.

MYTH:

Physical activity and exercise during your period can create more severe cramps

FACT:

Exercise can actually relieve pain and bloating caused by menstruation and dysmenorrhea. This is because when exercising, your body releases a hormone called serotonin. This hormone will make you feel better and happier.

MYTH:

Menstruation is associated with evil spirits

FACT:

There is no logical or scientific explanation for menstruation being associated with evil spirits.

MYTH:

Menstruation is shameful

FACT:

It is common to feel ashamed or embarrassed about your period, but it is important to remember that menstruation is normal and talking about it should not be out of the ordinary.

FACT:

The "regularity" of a menstrual cycle greatly varies between different people – meaning that the timing of the cycle, the length of the menstruation period and the amount of menstrual bleeding is different for everyone.
